We’re a city that doesn’t discriminate. I don’t care if it’s Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday, I encourage you to have a drink.
Whether it’s Karaoke night at HMAC, wing night at Midtown Tavern or happy hour at one of Harrisburg’s plethora of bars, find yourself a seat and make some friends. A half-priced happy hour menu or a $3 beer to wash down your 50 cent wings, will do a lot more than add a small charge to your travel rewards credit card.
Since moving to Harrisburg, some of my fondest memories have formed from conversations had over a couple of drinks. I’ll tell ya why.
Unlike having a conversation over a meal, we’re capable of talking and asking questions without one of us mumbling and the other saying “oops, sorry didn’t mean to ask just as you took a bite.”
Point made. I think we can all relate.
Conversations over drinks are an uninterrupted and relaxed time … to figure out what drinks your friends like so you stock your fridge appropriately the next time they come over. Oh and they’re also an awesome time to stop and listen. Taking the time to listen to what’s going on in someone’s life is a love language we can all relate to.
I love that getting together for drinks is the perfect excuse to hangout with the co-worker you’ve secretly been friend crushing on or learning more about a friend’s recent trip abroad. It’s a no pressure atmosphere for friends to love on each other, taste each other’s drinks so you know what to order next time and spend time together without spending a lot of money.
I don’t care if you make it a daily thing, a weekly hoopla or a monthly shindig, but I encourage you to visit some of my frequently visited spots in town. Check them out below:
Bacco’s Happy Hour
Every night from 5-7 p.m. Bacco’s offers a half-priced happy hour menu including brick-oven pizzas, wine and crafted cocktails. Get there early though because the place fills up before 5:30 most nights!
HMAC’s Karaoke Nights
Every Monday and Wednesday night, starting at 8 p.m. Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center comes alive with Karaoke night. Rock up early to get a good spot in the line-up!
Midtown Tavern Wing Night
Every Monday night Midtown Tavern offers wings so good, and so cheap, you’ll eat yourself sick. Skip laundry for the week and put your quarters toward 50 cent wing night!

The Millworks
Every Tuesday through Friday from 4-6 p.m. The Millworks offers $6 creative cocktails and featured small plates at the bar. But the big kicker here is the upstairs outdoor biergarten featuring Jenga and Connect Four. Snag a spot at one of the extended picnic tables and challenge a friend or a stranger to a game.
These by far aren’t the only cool places in town to hangout at during the week. Let me know what some of your favorite spots are and I’ll feature them in a post to come!
