You live where? Harrisburg, you know, the capital of PA?
The more I dwell on that answer the more I realize we should recognize this sweet city for a lot more than a single fact.
When I moved to the area for college four years ago, I thought it’d be a dine-and-dash type of deal. Yet here I am, a college graduate, all moved into my apartment in midtown (paying rent, and electric, and wifi, and renters insurance and my debts to the local liquor store on the corner). All in sum this means I’m finally giving back to the community which offered opportunity and a place for me.
To put it simply, I’m not only learning but implementing what it means to become a pilgrim in a tourist community.
One of the many perks to living in the city means I’m able to walk nearly everywhere, including work. Aka saving money, saving the environment and simultaneously saving my sanity from sitting in traffic. While I love my job a whole bunch (crazy, I know, for my first out-of-college adult experience) I’ve excessively grown to look forward to my walk to and from the office.
This walk allows time to breathe.
It’s a time to pause, self-reflect and admire every single well-flowered stoop and window box my eyes gaze upon.

Sure Harrisburg’s the capital of PA, but it probably doesn’t trigger as the night-life, coffee shop or fashion capital of any part of the U.S. So what makes it worth writing about? This city is currently the center of my every day life so that’s gotta count for something, right?
Whether it’s my walk to work or my walk downtown with friends to grab some grub, I find new quirks and idiosyncrasies along the way that make Harrisburg more than a destination on a map.
Now that I’m out of school and have this thing called free time (an anomaly I know), I’ve decided to document what it looks like to live the life of a pilgrim within the Harrisburg city limits.

In short, this blog will come to house the semi-detailed ramblings of my city findings. From begging-to-be-loved kittens tucked far out of my reach behind their glass-encased windows, to the best brunch spots in town, I have a good feeling this place is well on its way to making itself home.
Get to know this city. Love this city. Cherish this city.
